Rich Mountain Road

RICH MOUNTAIN ROAD -- A REMOTE SCENIC BYWAY
IN THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS

Rich Mountain Road is an 8-mile, one-way, gravel road that provides majestic views of Cades Cove below. You will travel from Cades Cove over Rich Mountain to Tuckaleechee Cove and then back into Townsend, TN.

The road is accessible at Cades Cove Missionary Baptist Church

You will find the road entrance near the halfway point around the Cades Cove Loop Road and across from Cades Cove Missionary Baptist Church.

This road is one of the most remote locations in the Smokies. As you stop to enjoy views of Cades Cove or take a quick hike into the forest, you will be completely surrounded by silence. The only thing you will hear is the sounds of nature.

Stay alert as you travel because you will most likely see a black bear, deer, or one of many other wildlife species.

The road is closed during the winter months. It may also be closed due to heavy rains at other times throughout the year.

Once you exit the Park, the road is very steep and winding. Take it slow and be very cautious during your return trip.
