Douglas Lake
IF YOU LIKE THE LAKE SCENE, DOUGLAS LAKE OFFERS
ALL THE AMENITIES YOU NEED
Douglas Lake offers excellent recreational opportunities. Formed from the French Broad River and its tributaries of the Nolichucky and Pigeon Rivers, Douglas Lake has 30,400 acres of water surface and 555 miles of shoreline. Over 1.7 million recreation visits per year make this a popular Smoky Mountain destination. Boating is a popular recreational activity on Douglas Lake. There is also a designated picnic area with a picnic pavilion with 8 picnic tables and 2 barbeque grills. The pavilion can be reserved by calling 1-866-494-7186. The picnic pavilion is wheelchair accessible.
Birdwatchers enjoy the fall migration of shore birds, wading birds, and other waterfowl that flock to Douglas from late July to early October. The birds rest and feed in the muddy shoreline and areas of shallow water exposed as the level of the reservoir is lowered to prevent spring flooding downstream.
